Anaconda

We went to a circus last night.  Its from Guatemala and is in town for a couple of weeks.  It was very second rate but was an amazing experience.  The main attraction advertised – in the van running around town with a speaker on the roof – was an anaconda.  But they only brought it out right at the end.  All they did was bring the snake out, put it on the ground.  Turn all the lights off to scare everyone… for quite a while the lights were off.  Then they turned the lights on, we clapped (all 30 of us in the tent designed for about 200), and then they took the snake away.  3 mins earlier they did a similar thing with a monkey.  They brought the little monkey out, carried it around for 30 seconds and took it away again.  The two things that interested me the most were the two shortest things.

I had heard that you could get a photo with the anaconda.  They didnt offer it at the end of the show, but as we were leaving i asked the guy who brought the snake out earlier and he said it was no problem.  They only didnt let everyone know because the day before the snake had eaten 5 chickens and was very heavy.  It did look incredible – you could see the lumps of the 5 chickens in its belly.  They brought the snake back out for us and we patted it.  It was scaly.  If you patted the wrong way you would lift the scales up.  It was beautiful.  They put it on our shoulders and took a photo.  One of the clowns also took a photo for us with my camera which you can see in the gallery.  Wow.  Anaconda.  They reckon it wasnt dangerous because it was full.  At one point its head came an inch away from my crotch.

Photos and video from the circus here.

More photos

I am uploading more photos, but its much easier for me to upload them to my MobileMe Galleries rather than Flickr.  I have put a link on the Photos page, but you can also get to them from here: http://gallery.me.com/robertkern.  There are alot more at the link above than on this website.  Although right now, only one of the galleries has finished uploading.  The first one with 500 photos is still on its way…

As i mentioned, my camera broke last week so there are no new photos yet.  In a couple of weeks i will be able to take more photos.

The rain is incredible

Wow.  It happened yesterday as well.  After about 15 minutes of rain, the street turns into a river.  The water races down a steep road and curves into this road where i live.  Its raining pretty hard but not super-hard.  It amazes me how much water falls from the sky in such a short time.  Im glad we dont live at the bottom of the hill.  My camera broke last week so i cant take a photo.  But, wow.

Wall-E and other things

I have just returned from watching Wall-E with the kids. It is a copy i picked up in the park along with a couple other dvd’s. Not all of the kids enjoyed the movie. They have been begging me to bring my laptop over and watch a dvd with them and this was the first time i have been able to buy a dvd to bring over but only a few of them watched the whole thing. Some of the kids came in and out making lots of noise. Some of the younger ones fell asleep. Two of the younger ones poo’d their pants which leaked out onto the chairs. I think i will watch the movie again when i get a chance. It looked very ineteresting!

We are going back to the orphanage tonight because today is the birthday of Riko (a girl who has been coming to hang out with the kids). She is bringing a birthday cake and some lollies. Im looking forward to it!
