Wall-E and other things

I have just returned from watching Wall-E with the kids. It is a copy i picked up in the park along with a couple other dvd’s. Not all of the kids enjoyed the movie. They have been begging me to bring my laptop over and watch a dvd with them and this was the first time i have been able to buy a dvd to bring over but only a few of them watched the whole thing. Some of the kids came in and out making lots of noise. Some of the younger ones fell asleep. Two of the younger ones poo’d their pants which leaked out onto the chairs. I think i will watch the movie again when i get a chance. It looked very ineteresting!

We are going back to the orphanage tonight because today is the birthday of Riko (a girl who has been coming to hang out with the kids). She is bringing a birthday cake and some lollies. Im looking forward to it!

Lluvia de Peces (Rain of fish!)

Last week i learnt about a place in Honduras that rains fish every year and has been for the last 100 years. Its a town in the department of Yoro which is a few hours from where i am. Its an incredible story. The story goes that over a century ago, a Father José Manuel Subirana was working in the town and was devastated with the desperate poverty. He fell into a fevered prayer that lasted for days, praying for provisions for the people of the town. When he finished praying, a storm came and after the storm the people found fish littered all over the streets. The fish were still alive and they took them and ate them. Since then it has been happening every May/June like clockwork. Its the only place in the world where it rains animals frequently. There are other places where it has rained frogs for example, but it only happens once.

Learning to be a web developer in a third-world country

Its very different developing websites in a country with even worse Internet than New Zealand. I have been using speeds of about 256k here in Honduras but almost all the time, it feels like (and probably is) 56k or worse. It often cuts out.

Posted some photos

I have put up a couple of photos under the Photos section of the orphanage. I will be putting up more, and this is just a tiny selection of the photos that have been taken so far. The kids love to take photos.

Things are very well here. My host family is great – although i will be moving next week, not for any bad reasons at all. The weather is lovely. It is raining pretty much every afternoon which keeps the place a little cooler so the temperatures are around 28 to 33 ish but can get down to about 18 during the night and morning.

I dont have much time to write at the moment but do plan to write more. I was a little aprehensive about writing about my experiences here on the Internet but i do plan to now.

I hope all is well with you!
